Concept Idea for Opening Sequences
Idea 1
GENRE
The genre of my first idea is mainly a Thriller with certain aspects of a Drama; this is due to the intense and nerve-wracking nature of the situation itself involving betrayal and secrecy making it a thriller, and the themes of relationships and trust adding drama.
OVERVIEW
A guy is visiting his girlfriends house for dinner to meet her family, it appears to be a normal happy family at a cosy dinner, yet he looks to be slightly on edge. He eyes the father and is engaged by what he is saying, he leans forward. His girlfriend then calmly puts her hand on his back, seemingly as an affectionate gesture, however, he quickly freezes up and we see him get progressively more nervous the more she slides her hand up his back, he begins to sweat profusely as he tries to keep focused on the fathers speech and cuts up his dinner with increasingly excessive force. His knife eventually scrapes the plate, which loudly interrupts the father and all eyes are on him, the mother asks if he is feeling alright as he excuses himself to go to the bathroom. We see his girlfriend’s hand slide off his back as he gets up - her expression remains calm but she is slightly stiff, as if she knows something. We follow him as he goes to the bathroom and grabs toilet paper to wipe his forehead before pulling up his shirt from the back to reveal a microphone wire - he wipes the sweat from his back around the wire area as well before grabbing the sink to try to collect himself. He receives a message from an anonymous number reading “get it together”, he takes a sharp breath composes himself. He then walks back to the table, confidently now, and sits down next to his girlfriend again before holding her hand, the one that was on his back, preventing her from doing so again - another a seemingly innocent gesture, but his girlfriend clearly knows otherwise, she side eyes him with slight fear in her eyes as he returns to the conversation.
REST OF THE FILM
The rest of the film would follow the rest of the guy's stay at his girlfriend's house as he tries to gather more information from her family. Along we will discover what information he wants to collect, why, and perhaps for who - figuring out the identity of the anonymous number and their intentions. The main 'antagonist' would be his girlfriend, who is very clever and observant, as she clearly suspects him, we would see how she discovers more about his intentions or actions and what she will do to protect her family, yet stay safe herself. The film would include prevalent themes of relationship dynamics, like the deep emotional bond between these two characters and how they view each other. A main factor of watching this could be the confusion of not knowing who to root for - our main character, the anti-hero potentially working for someone evil and betraying his girlfriend, or the film's technical villain, his girlfriend using her resourcefulness and intelligence to try and protect her family or find out more about him.
