Opening Sequence 2 - Horror

Concept Idea for Opening Sequences

Idea 2

GENRE
The genre for this sequence would be horror, particularly of the slasher sub-genre as it includes a masked killer and a home invasion.

OVERVIEW
This sequence opens on a wide eyed and panicked looking girl sneaking quietly around (presumably) her house, it is either night time or just dimly lit and unsettling, she is carrying a knife and appears to be on the lookout for someone (seemingly a dangerous home invader or killer). As we watch her explore every corner of the house, perhaps checking if it's safe, we occasionally see a dark figure quickly move across the shot in the fore/background out of focus. The girl eventually clearly sees this figure entering a specific room, she takes a deep breath and creeps towards its doorway. She crouches down and eyes the room before a menacing smile slowly spreads across her face, she reaches into her bag/coat pocket and pulls out a creepy looking mask, she quietly puts in over her head and reaches over to turn the light on - it is at this point that it becomes apparent that she was the real threat/killer. The room lights up to reveal that the dark figure was just a regular person, the actual resident of the house (perhaps an older man, to reverse the roles of a typical slasher), hiding under a table looking terrified, on the phone shakingly whispering to presumably the police. This person, the victim, screams as the masked killer jumps at them and drags them off screen, we hear stabbing noises and see blood splattering, the victim tries to crawl away from her and we see their hands desperately clawing into the shot before being dragged away again, their arms leaving a bloody trail leading off screen (for clichéd dramatic effect 👍).

THE REST OF THE FILM
The rest of the film would follow the masked killer as the main character, it would reveal her backstory and why she began killing people as a young girl is not typically what comes to mind when a dangerous murderer is mentioned, we would also learn about the victim we see in this opening - who they are, her relationship to them and why she decided to hunt them down to kill them. A main theme of the film would follow how this type of character would usually play the role of 'the final girl' who survives the mysterious killer - we could learn more about her as a deep complicated character and why she acts like this, rather than leave the film's masked killer as an anonymous man who seemingly kills just for sport.
